SUMMARY:Night Watch Prayer Vigil
DESCRIPTION:On Thursday of Holy Week the Church remembers Christ’s Last Supper with his apostles and sets the scene for what will happen the next day\, Good Friday. After the distribution of Holy Communion the priest places the Blessed Sacrament on the altar. A procession is then formed in which the Blessed Sacrament\, accompanied by torches and incense\, is carried through the church to a place of repose prepared in the chapel. The faithful are invited to continue adoration before the Blessed Sacrament between 7 p.m. and midnight. This tradition of adoring Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament on Holy Thursday is often called the “Night Watch” and recalls how Jesus invited his apostles to stay with him while he prayed. DESCRIPTION:From the Middle Ages it became the custom to begin the season of Lent by being marked in ash with the sign of the cross. The reminder that we are dust turns our attention to the creative power of God\, and God’s ability to heal the brokenness in our lives when we offer our brokenness to God. \n\n\n\nWe are offering ashes on the street today because the reminder of our needs\, our humility\, and our healing should not be confined to a church building. The ashes we receive here are to remind us throughout the day of our need for God\, and of God’s love for us. \n\n\n\nWe believe God meets us where ever we are\, in the midst of everyday life. We are grateful you have chosen to share a portion of your day with us.
